Session Description: COVID-19 demonstrated the need for urgent, agile, and also long-term response plans for emerging threats from local outbreaks to pandemics. Risk mitigation across the CBRN and WMD spectrum requires whole of government approaches. BARDA guides biomedical countermeasure development from proposal to FDA submission, and can benefit from SOF Medicine's role as global sentinel for new and evolving threats. This presentation details the function of BARDA in countermeasures development by emphasizing opportunities for SOF medicine to inform new risks and mitigation approaches. BARDA works to place products in end-user hands from civilian EMS during natural disaster to forward medics in combat and austere/denied environments. A strong BARDA-SOF Medicine relationship will improve clinical outcomes while closing gaps and protecting vital national interests across counter-WMD and pandemic risks.
