Session Description: The Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC) is a 501c3 partnered with the Department of Defense to invest in biomedical innovation that improves health outcomes for civilian and military personnel. We fund life-science companies and organizations, including medical centers and Universities by providing milestone-driven funding to develop technologies in the areas of human performance, infectious disease and microbial resistance, regenerative medicine, medical simulation, emergency medicine, medical devices, diagnostics, and healthcare IT to include AI and machine learning. Awards provided by MTEC are non-dilutive and vary in size, ranging from under $1-25 Million. MTEC has placed over $1 Billion in investment awards to our network since 2016, resulting in 10 commercial products and a strong pipeline of clinical stage technologies. MTEC's current awards are listed here: https://mtec-sc.org/mtec-current-projects/. We continue to develop relationships with industry and investors to enable co-development and funding opportunities for our network.
MTEC is a rich ecosystem of technology providers and ancillary support organizations who engage in teaming partnerships to accelerate the development of medical products; meeting military needs through the integration of information, network, and services. We use accelerators, funders, associations, and medical foundations to increase the breadth and depth of the emerging technology landscape. The MTEC technical staff provides technology developers with insights that help pivot from civilian to military use, and in turn, significantly enhance their technology’s profile and customer base. During the solicitation phase, we educate prospective bidders of the military’s detailed needs thereby ensuring the focus is toward current military priorities. The MTEC builds teams amongst members resulting in proposals that meet the full scope of the military requirement. These upfront functions have led to a cumulative merit rating of >60% of proposals rated acceptable or better; a risk reducer for the military.
